Vinyl will certainly outlast canvas and is always easier to clean than canvas.  However, the debate about if vinyl is "slippery" or not is one that everyone has an opinion on.  It can get slippery, yes.  Stand up fighters seem to prefer canvas mat covers so plan your purchase according to your usage and the fighters that train in your facility.

Our octagon vinyl mat covers are simple to install with grommets spaced approx every 12 inches.  The vinyl mat cover is sized according to your cage platform size and your cage platform is measured from flat side to flat side, not diagonally.
